2018-2019 MTAM President, Michelle Sieben, MT-BC!

Michelle collects many quotes that resonate with her at different times, but one that she always tries to keep in mind is, “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” (Maya Angelou) We are always inspired to see how Michelle lives this out in her life! For example…

Michelle works as music therapist at Augustana Care Health and Rehabilitation Center of Apple Valley and is director and supervisor of a new American Music Therapy Association, Inc. national roster internship site there. She is also pursuing her masters of music therapy Augsburg University.

In September of 2014, Michelle fell in love with Taiko, a type of modern Japanese Drumming (literally translates to “big drum”), when she started taking classes from St. Kate’s. She now attends classes and performs through TaikoArts Midwest in Minneapolis. Her favorite drum is the Odaiko, and she has also learned Fue/Shinobue (Japanese flute), which is used in many Taiko pieces.

In addition, Michelle loves reading and learning about different types of religion/spirituality/theology. She finds it fascinating to explore different facets of different faith traditions and to explore what people believe in and why and how those beliefs influence the way they live their lives.
