• Pediatric Medical Music Therapy Peer Group

The pediatric medical music therapy peer group is open to Minnesota music therapists working with youth in a hospital setting. The group meets quarterly to share program successes, challenges, and projects and has continued meeting virtually during the pandemic to check in with one another on how we are addressing the challenges of this time. This group also offers the opportunity to discuss topics such as referral processes, program growth, priority scales, and intervention ideas. Contact kayla.shafer@childrensmn.org if you are interested in attending our next meeting–scheduled for early 2021.

  • The Minnesota Music Therapy Business Owners group (MN MTBO) has proved to be a great way to foster collaboration, enhance communication, provide support and guidance, expedite placement of referrals between music therapists, and provide continuing education related to business ownership in music therapy. It has been particularly helpful in keeping up on changes and providing support and encouragement during COVID.

The group is open to those who are the primary owner(s) of a private practice serving clients in MN.

We typically have quarterly meetings and also have a Google group, MN MTBO Facebook group, MN Music Therapy Businesses Coping with COVID Facebook group, as well as an ongoing spreadsheet to help identify current business needs and successes, areas and populations served, and organizational information.

Contact Melissa Spiess with any questions or to be added to the Google group: melissa@livingspirittherapy.com or 651-363-3936.

  • The hospice music therapy group is open to music therapists working in the hospice setting in Minnesota. Hospice music therapists are invited to join our Google group to stay connected, as well as join our monthly Zoom meetings when we share resources and swap ideas. Email Erin Fox at efox42081@gmail.com or Leanne Barck at leanne.barck@parknicollet.com .
  • The Special Education peer group welcomes music therapists who are working (or who are interested in working) in the educational setting. Some music therapists who join these meetings are in private practice, some work for a specific school district. During the pandemic, this group has met remotely each month to support each other and share ideas related to in-person, hybrid and distance learning. Please contact Jenny Pelletier for more info: jennifer.pelletier.msa.state.mn.us .
  • NMT-MN is a Local Support Chapter designed to provide affiliates of the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy an opportunity to meet in person or virtually with NMTs in their region. These meetings provide an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the specific NMT techniques within clinical practice and to minimize erroneous representation of NMT through video examples and clinical discussions. In addition to some formal agenda items, we spend time networking, asking questions, discussing current literature and connecting with fellow NMTs. In order to participate, you must have completed a current NMT institute training or fellowship within the last 5 years and be in good standing with the Academy. Please contact Vicki Sommerfeldt at vsommerfeldt@usfamily.net for more information.
