MTAM Awards: “Friend of MTAM”, “Service Award”, & “Lifetime Achievement Award”

Friend of MTAM Award
MTAM honors one person with the Friends of MTAM award every spring. Recipients
demonstrate commitment to the music therapy profession in a variety of ways, such as
professional advocacy or donations to music therapy projects. Previous recipients include
Representative Zachary Dorholt, Representative Nora Slawik, state government employee Sarah
Sinderbrand, musician and music therapy advocate Mickey Hart, and musician Billy
McLaughlin.
Nomination criteria:
1. Nominee has contributed to music therapy in Minnesota in some way, i.e. professional
advocacy, donations to music therapy projects.
2. Nominator must write a one-page essay detailing nominee’s contributions to music therapy in
Minnesota.
3. Contributions of nominee are preferred to have occurred in the year nominated but are not
required.
4. Candidates must be nominated by a member of MTAM.
5. Award will be presented at either Spring or Fall conferences.
MTAM Service Award
1. Awarded to a Music Therapist who has demonstrated a pattern of outstanding service and
dedication to the state or Region through contributions as a clinician, clinical trainer, educator,
government or public relations proponent, etc.
2. Nominee may not be an elected MTAM board member. People who have previously served on the board
or are currently serving on the board in an appointed capacity are eligible.
3. Nomination process: Nominator must write a 1 page essay detailing nominee’s contributions to
music therapy in Minnesota.
4. Contributions of nominee are preferred to have occurred in the year nominated but are not required.
5. Must be nominated by a member of MTAM.
6. Award will be presented at either Spring or Fall conferences.
Lifetime Achievement Award
1. Awarded to a Music Therapist who has shown long-term dedication to the field of music therapy, has
made distinguished contributions to the field, and has at least 15 years experience.
2. Nominee may not be an elected MTAM board member. People who have previously served on the board
or are currently serving on the board in an appointed capacity are eligible.
3. Nomination process: Nominator must write a 1 page essay detailing nominee’s contributions and
dedication to the field of music therapy.
4. Must be nominated by a member of MTAM.
5. Award will be presented at either Spring or Fall conferences. Given once per year.
